New Folksy Listing
"Cow with attitude" printed on Canson Gravure paper is now available to buy in my Folksy shop.
Paper notes
I did try the Hahnemuehle Copper Plate etching paper for this print. This is a really lovely soft paper but quite textured so I damped it slightly to maximise the ink contact and take up. The result was a wonderfully rich print with deep relief which I think is really attractive. Unfortunately the ink did bleed on this dampened paper, not a problem I had with the Canson Gravure and I was a bit surprised because I didn’t think the ink was soluble in water alone. I can see I will have to experiment a bit more with this one.

Cow with attitude #2
This is a open edition lino print of a limousin cow in a cattle shed. The award-winning herd is based up the road from my house and a common sight in the fields around the village. I've tried to capture the inquistive nature of these magnificent beasts. I'll shortly be listing this print with a full description in my Folksy shop.
Hanging around
Finally got around to printing late last night. Here are the results hanging out to dry. Luckily I found a sheet of lovely heavy Canson & Gravure paper at the bottom of my stash which suited perfectly. Also found a small piece of Somerset Velvet in "newsprint" colour which is a creamy grey - I rather like the result - I'll see what it looks like mounted. I'll be listing this print on Folksy over the weekend, when I've let the ink dry and mounted one up for photos.

Latest lino cut nearly ready for printing
Phew. After 15 long hours of careful cutting my latest lino plate is nearly ready for printing. This is a reworking of an old idea. The first version was in 4 or 5 colours and a bit too big for my press so the inking wasn't as even as I would have liked (see it here). So I've redesigned it for a one colour print.
Just as I was ready to print I discovered I had ordered the wrong paper. I prefer a nice crisp white Zerkall printing paper but I'd order some Hahnemule as an experiment. Its a much softer and creamier paper so I might try it with a rich dark brown ink rather than the black I had intended. More Zerkall is on order so there will be a black & white version too.
